At a recent event where President Trump signed an executive order aimed at cracking down on ticket scalpers, musician Kid Rock made headlines—not just for his presence but for his bold fashion choice. Fox News even joked that he looked like “someone who looked like they were about to be shot out of a cannon.”
Rock didn’t hold back on his thoughts about the ticketing industry. “You can buy a ticket for $100, but by the time you check out, it’s $170. You don’t even know what you’ve been charged for,” he said. He continued, “More importantly, bots swoop in, grab all the best tickets to your favorite shows, and resell them with markups of 400-500%.”
Acknowledging his own success, Rock added, “I’ll be the first one to say, and I know the president doesn’t like when I say this, but I’m a little overpaid right now. It’s kind of ridiculous. I’d rather be a hero to working-class people, giving them the chance to attend my shows at a fair price. Right now, I can’t control that, so hopefully this is a step toward making that happen.”
Rock also revealed that he had spoken with Ticketmaster CEO Michael Rapino, who, according to Rock, was “on board” with the reform efforts.
In response to the executive order, Live Nation released a statement:
“Scalpers and bots prevent fans from getting tickets at the prices artists set, and we thank President Trump for taking them head-on. We support any meaningful resale reforms—including more enforcement of the BOTS Act, caps on resale prices, and more.”
